although travel insurance is not a legal requirement when visiting Spain, it should still be considered an essential travel document when planning your trip and there are multiple travel insurance policies for Spain to choose from. the length of time you are travelling for and/or the number of trips you plan to take will influence whether you’re most suited to a single trip, an annual multi trip or long stay policy.

whether you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or the new Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) as a result of the UK leaving the EU, these will both temporarily entitle travellers to discounted or even free state-provided healthcare in Spain. however, you will not be covered by your EHIC/GHIC if you have to be brought back to the UK because of a medical emergency – so this is where your travel insurance policy will step in. most travel insurance policies on albert & eddie will cover emergency medical expenses in Spain, provided you are not being treated in a private facility (unless previously authorised by your travel insurance company). however, it is important you let us know about any existing medical conditions when you buy your policy, as failure to declare to do so could mean that if you needed to cancel your trip, or if you fell ill abroad due to the condition, then any related costs may not be covered.
